It was our Nobel-prize winning scientist, Dr. Albert Szentgyörgyi who first described the beneficial effects of grape seeds to the human body in 1936. He was the first to state that grape seeds may have the highest concentration of natural antioxidants.
The GERE Attila Winery has been processing grape seeds and skin since 2010. Today this process takes place completely in the winery’s own factory using their own grapes coming from organically farmed vineyards.
The grape seeds are used to produce grape seed oil and grape seed extract. First we press the oil from the seeds, then we grind them. As whole or scrunched grape seed can not exert its beneficial effects grinding is necessary. This way the active ingredients are brought to the surface and on entering our system they can interact with our bowel system more swiftly and on a much larger surface area. All of which goes to improve the efficiency of the absorption.
Gere Attila Winery together with the University of Pécs made a research for GERE Grape seed and peel extract. The following summary was issued about the results:
PTE (University of Pécs) summary about grape seed extract:
“The grape seed and grape peel extract exceeds the antioxidant property of vitamin C or E many times. It became well known due to its heart-friendly and anti cancer properties but also plays role in preservation of health due to its other, many beneficial effects.
Grape seed extract contains procyanidol-oligomers (PCO), also known as proantocyanidins, or as called earlier: picnogenols which likely play important role in preventing heart disease and cancer.
Grape seed either contains water- and fat-soluble components. The grape seed extract permeates through cell membrane and exerts its antioxidant effect in the whole body. It is one of those materials which can get across through the blood-brain barrier so protects the brain cells against the destructive effects of free radicals.
Grape seed extract may lower the risk of apoplexy and infarct, strengthens the capillaries, enhances blood flow, alleviates the symptoms of nerve damage (numbness and buzz in the limbs) which appears as the intergrowth of diabetes.
According to many studies grape seed extract has anti cancer effect too. As antioxidants the PCO-s protects against the effects affecting the genetic material of the cells, which might play role in formation of cancer.
During our studies it was proven that the Gere grape seed and grape peel grist contains those antioxidant compounds (quercetin, malvidin, rutin, resveratrol) which are – based on literary data – the most important antioxidants of grape.
Animal studies clearly proved its blocking effect in inflammatory processes and tumor formation and also its beneficial effect in protecting the anoxic damage of heart.
As a result of all these for health preservation and disease prevention the extract can be recommended for regular intake. Based on the latest literature data the oral intake of grape seed extract causes no side effects. In the case of overdose no poisoning symptoms occur.
Though we did not fulfill human experiments this time, according to the literature data we recommend the daily intake of the extract between 3000-5000mg quantity.”

HUMAN EXPERIMENTS SHOWING THE STRESS RELIEVING EFFECTS OF GERE BLUE GRAPE SEED EXTRACT
Results of the human experiments led by Professor Dr. Erzsébet Rőth (the president of the Hungarian Free Radical Research Association)
During scientific experiments /University of Pécs, Researching laboratory 2012/ it was proved that the GERE blue grape seed and peel extract contains those flavonoids, and poliphenols /quercetin, rezveratrol, malvidin, rutin/, which have strong antioxidant effects and this way they reduce the cell harming effects of free radicals. The animal experiments clearly showed the blocking of inflammatory processes, the cardio-vascular diseases, and forming of tumors after the intake of the extract.
The harmful environmental effects of present days, the stressful lifestyle, the incorrect diet, smoking, etc. continuously harm our body. In the background of these there is the imbalance between the numerous, aggressive free radicals and the protecting, free-radical neutralizing antioxidant systems. As the result of this oxidative stress occurs and it leads to several diseases /auto-immune diseases, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, stroke, heart attack, dementia, Alzheimer-, Parkinson disease/.
In the possess of these very important knowledge – under the direction of professor Dr. Erzsébet Rőth (the president of the Hungarian Free Radical Research Association) – the OXYLAB disease-risk evaluating laboratory started its work in Pécs in 2007. It fulfils those special laboratory experiments in ambulance form with which the rate of the oxidative stress can be allocated and then the controlled treatment of the stress status can be done.
According to the experiments it was showed, that the diet supplements used as antioxidants exerted various effects in the different patients, which is mainly determined by the rate of their absorption. So after measuring the base status it is recommended to evaluate the effect of the antioxidant after 2 months with a control test again, because then the possible positive effect of it is measurable /the oxidative stress status reduces/, or we can not show beneficial change because of the weak absorption. The further treatment follows based on this.
In our human experiments we studied the GERE blue grape seed and peel micro extract’s antioxidant effect on different age (30-50 years) active intellectual and physical workers. We evaluated the effectiveness of the antioxidant product with special and internationally validated laboratory tests, which made possible the demonstration of the pro- and antioxidant status, namely the oxidative stress.
64 man and woman were involved in our studies, at whom we established the rate of oxidative stress in the OXYLAB specialized laboratory.
We showed that at 28 persons (20 woman and 8 man) among the 64 different level of oxidative stress were present at the first so-called control examination, because the harmful oxidative processes dominated and the endogen antioxidant protection significantly reduced.
In the possession of these results – picking up those 28 persons where the oxidative panel was pathological – we recommended the regular intake of GERE blue grape seed extract for 2 months, with 1 coffee spoon per day.
After the 2 months intake of grape seed extract we repeated the laboratory tests with determining the parameters of oxidative stress. We showed that at all examined persons – without exception! – the oxidative excess was reduced and the antioxidant protection was improved. At 17 persons – from the 28 –the values were totally normalized, and in 11 cases the oxidative stress was still evincible in lower rate. In these cases we recommended the further intake of the extract with increased dosage, for 2 months with 2×1 coffee spoon per day. After this period (2 months) the test showed that the oxidative stress was only still high at 3 patients.
Our summary can be that the 28 studied patients – after 2 and 4 months of regular grape seed extract intake – the values were normalized and the oxidative stress was stopped. At 3 patients we recommended the further intake of the extract with 1 coffee spoon per day to reduce the mild oxidative stress.
After the known positive results of in vitro and animal experiments, with our human experiments we first proved the GERE blue grape seed extract’s antioxidant and oxidative stress lowering effects after 2 months of intake. Based on these results we recommend the intake of GERE grape seed extract in all those cases where the oxidative stress can be indicated with laboratory methods. This is such a special form of stress which can be well detected and well treated with the natural grape seed extract.
You can find detailed information about the principal background of oxidative stress, the certain experiments and the laboratory on the www.oxylab.hu website.
But there are other publications about the beneficial effects of grape seed too. For example in 2009 a scientific study was published (in Clinical Cancer Research magazine) about the activity of grape seed poliphenols. According to the article they destroyed 76% of leukemia cells grown in laboratory circumstances in 1 day.
Dr. László Márk, the leader of the analytic laboratory of the Biochemistry and Medical Chemistry Centre of the University of Pécs – also a participant of the grape seed and red wine research with Gere Attila Winery – said the followings about the grape seed study results:
“We’ve been studying poliphenols in Villány red wines since 2004. These materials protect the cardio-vascular system and also decrease the insulin resistance in diabetes nr.2. The famous resveratrol can also be found in these poliphenols: this is the molecule whereof the beneficial medical effects were demonstrated for the first time. The French paradox can also be attributed to these poliphenol compounds. This paradox refers to the fact that even though the French consume a lot of fatty food, the risk of cardio vascular diseases and the number of illnesses is relatively low among them. The studies have shown that this is connected to moderate red wine consumption because the poliphenols are absorbed from the wine and they protect the body. Having studyied grape seed extracts eventually the same positive effects were proven as in the case of wine poliphenols.”
Further health enhancing ingredients found in grape seeds: boron, bioflavin, vitamin P, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and some trace elements as iron, copper, molybdenum, manganese, etc. These together with the poliphenols protect our nervous system.
